There is a key to ethno-linguistic groups and portraits, in traditional costume, of the nation's extraordinary mosaic of peoples and cultures, including Moldavian, Byelorussian, Ukrainian, Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijanian, Turkmen, Tajik, Uzbek, Kirgiz, Kasakh, Tuvan, Buryat, Yakut, Chukchi, Evenk, Jew, Mordvin, Tatar, Chuvash, Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian, and Russian.
On the reverse side there is a political map of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, with a key to administrative units of the Soviet Union. Other details include railroads, roads, airports, oil fields, cities, towns, and natural features.
The coverage area includes the 15 present-day post-Soviet states: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Russia.
