    Description

    Gorgeous antique wall hanging of a Russian troika scene embroidered on an antique Washburn-Crosby linen wheat flour sack.
    Washburn-Crosby Company, a flour milling company started in the late 1800's that eventually became General Mills. In 1877 the Washburn brothers merged their mill business with businessman John Crosby to form the Washburn-Crosby Company, producing winter wheat flour. In 1880 their flour brands won gold silver and bronze medals at the Millers International Exhibition in Cincinnati and the Gold Medal flour brand was born. Washburn-Crosby President James Ford Bell directed his company to merge with 26 other mills in 1928 to create General Mills.
    So the sack is believed to date to around the late 1870s or early 1880s.
    The embroidered scene says in old Russian: "вот мчится тройка удалая Вдоль по дороге столбовой", which translates to "
    here rushes the troika of the remote along the road pillar".
    Measures approximately 44" x 30". In overall good condition with a slight smell of moth balls or similar.
