Description
RUSSIAN HAND-PAINTED TRAY from URAL MOUNTAINS, town NIZHNI TAGIL, 1990'sThis tray was given to me during a visit to Nizhny Tagil in 1991, a town in the Ural Mountains of Russia, bordering Siberia. Ural artists are known for their tray painting. Each petal is made by using one brush stroke. Flowers are h
and-painted on lacquered metal. There are several layers of varnishing. The Ural tray painters goes back centuries, to the 1700s. There are a couple nicks but you can hardly notice them. See logo and numbering on front and back. See all photos. There is a small hole on top and bottom so that can be hung on a wall, as well as being usable tray.

A bit of history:
The tray craft
originated in
Nizhny Tagil
more than 250 years ago. One of the main reasons for the birth of the
iron tray
was the manufacture in
Nizhny Tagil
of t
he high-quality metal brand "Old Sable."
This brand was known far beyond the borders of not only
the Urals
but also
Russia
.
The manufacturing of Old Sable and the presence of
qualified artisans
who brilliantly possess the
skills
of working with iron turned these trays into must-have objects of each household.
