    Description

Offered is a nice vintage hand painted traditional folk art Russian lidded and hinged lacquer box. The slightly domed lid is painted with churches or monasteries that are in the ancient village of Uglich. I believe this box was painted by a Kholui artist. It is titled and signed in Cyrillic. I estimate it dates to the 1960's or perhaps the 70's. The size of the box is 4 1/2" Width, 3 1/8" Depth and 1" Height.
The box is in good estate condition and shows very beautifully. There are some scattered scratches, particularly on the bottom from shelf wear. Along the hinge on the back, there are some age-related scattered imperfections/scuffs on the lacquer surface. On the painted top, there is some age-related crazing of the lacquer surface.
Thank you and please let me know if you need additional information.
