Vintage Beautiful Palekh Russian Hexagonal Lacquer Box Troika Horses Fairy Tale

Description

Offered is a beautiful vintage hand-painted hexagonal Russian lacquer box. The detailed scene on the hinged lid, against a black background, depicts three horses ("Troika") pulling a sled and is from a Russian fairy tale. There is a woman standing at the reigns and and a young boy and girl are her passengers. The interior of the box is a cinnabar red. There is Cyrillic writing on the lower left and lower right of the lid (I am unable to read). I estimate this box dates to the 1970's or early 80's. (Please Note: Some of the photos have scattered white light reflection from LED bulbs that were above the box when photographed).
The dimensions are: 4 7/8" point-to-point; 3 7/16" flat-to-flat; 1 1/2" high.
The box is in good vintage condition with only light shelf wear and no chips. The top of the lid has a few light scratches. The lacquer finish on the bottom of the box shows a few craquelure lines. The interior is bright and clean.
