Description
Vintage small, 8-row wooden abacus from Soviet era Russia. Box joints on natural wood frame, chrome metal bars, and natural wood and black beads. With a vintage stamped paper label in Russian on the interior bottom. From Russia in the early to mid 20th century, most likely the 1940s.Measures 7-1/8” high x 5-1/4” wide x 1-3/16” deep at the bottom. The sides slightly taper toward the top.
Label is missing some letters, but it appears to say the abacus is from Mozhayskoye. The top of the label mentions the Executive Committee (Ispolkom). The 1-inch long rectangular rubber stamp mark is faint but appears to have three initials on it in dark brown ink.
In good condition. The frame and bars are sturdy. The bars have a bit of oxidation on the chrome. (The slight outward curve to the bars is original to the abacus.) The beads have a bit of wear from use but are in good shape. The paper label is attached to the bottom. It has some wear on the surface and chips and dog-ears on the edges. Not all letters are visible. Stands upright on a table. See images for details.
